At the end of summer each year our family likes to take a "last gasp of summer" trip. It is our fun last getaway until school starts back up. This year we went to the beach and western Michigan along Lake Michigan. We had heard a lot about how beautiful Lake Michigan was and of the fun towns running its coast. We visited Holland, Michigan which is a a town settled by the dutch and still has many of those dutch traditions. We visited a Dutch Village attraction that was a bit "campy" but fun with lots to do. We stayed over night-hurray a hotel with a pool- and then went out for the day to Lake Michigan. The water was about 52 degrees this year (usually it is about 15 degrees warming from what we hear) but it was sunny and fun to play.

This slide came out of a giant wooden shoe! We got to also take in a wooden shoe tutorial.
Not as big as "Turn of the Century" at Lagoon but it was fun.
They had a petting zoo with darling baby bunnies. The sticker on Ainsley's shirt is from dancing a Dutch traditional dance with the parks' dancers. Caroline and I also danced and I dare say we were quite good. One of the dancers lost her wooden shoe and it went flying into the crowd-it seriously did, no one was hurt.
For some reason they let you walk goats at this Dutch village so we gave it a go. The boys took this goat we named "Pepe" for a walk.
The girls got "Chuckles" who was extraordinarily stubburn as you can tell from Caroline's expression. He would periodically lay down on the ground -- Romney ended up having to drag him back to the pen.
Another interesting treat were these pump train cars they had. They were a real arm workout - Caroline was officially too big- but Ainsley figured out how to get around that by not pumping at all and letting the girl behind her push her around!!
Zip lines- gotta love zip lines!!
